When e-filing a Return of Service for a party not listed on the case, or a third party, you are not able to use the document types Return of Service, Affidavit of Service, or Acceptance of Service. Those document types will require that the person being served be an actual party on the case. In order to file a Return of Service for a third person who is not a party on the case, you’ll need to select Other: as your document type. Then, in the Description / Remainder of Title field you’ll the specifically describe the document including the following pieces of data (see image below).
- Name of party served for (this is the actual party who service was obtained upon)
- Date of service (01/01/2013)
By way of example, your document title might be: Other: Return of Service for Jane Doe on 4/4/13.
