In many instances, when e-filing a document the Court requires you select an “existing party” on the case for which your filing pertains to. For example, in the case of a Motion, you will be asked to select the party you are filing the motion on behalf of, or in the case of a Return of Service document, you may be asked to select the “Servee” from an existing list of parties on the case.

When this occurs, however, and the party you are filing on behalf of is NOT an existing party on the case, you have no ability to make a selection and are unable to submit your filing. In these cases, the Court has approved a work-around solution until they allow the ability to add your party. The work-around solution is as follows:

  1. In the Document Type field, select “OTHER“. This will prevent the “Additional Info” section from requiring you to identify a specific party.
  2. In the Document Description field, be sure to type the full title of your document.
  3. Contact the Court, let them know you just filed your document and that you want to make sure that your party is added to the case.
  4. Click Sign and File

This will allow you to submit your document to the Court, and should it be required provide the Court the cue to add the party to the case.
